Panel Discussion - The State of Cyber Security in Philadelphia
We are seeing growing threats and attacks in regard to cybersecurity – against government, schools, industry, critical infrastructure. The number of security incidents climbs each year, along with the cost to respond and remediate these incidents. Is there sufficient awareness of the problem - do we have sufficient cyberliteracy? Are we making enough progress? Is there enough talent in the pipeline to keep our region safe?
Come hear from our panel of Philadelphia experts in this fast-moving and hugely important space!
The panelists for our discussion include:
Tom Schiavinato, Director of Network and Security Operations at Comcast
Donna Ross, CISO at Radian
Thomas Heverin, Principal Cyber Security Engineer at PGFM Solutions and Adjunct Faculty at Drexel
Colbert Zhu, Computer Science student at Drexel and club president of the CyberDragons
The discussion will be moderated by Brad Bowers (AVP Security Services – Radian and an organizer of BSides Philly)
This event is organized by PCEA which is the Philadelphia Cybersecurity Education Alliance. PCEA is a non-profit that is all about elevating the visibility of cyber in Philly, and about building connections in tech-education-government. Our goals are to get more people interested in and ready for the field of cybersecurity, and to connect people with opportunities.

We will also have representatives from local startup Privakey at the event. Privakey is a digital identity and authentication company focused on improving the customer experience and eliminating the hassles and insecurities of passwords. Their solutions give users one simple and consistent way to assert their identities and provide consent across all channels. Privakey offers a licensed technology that companies can embed into their own apps or a new, free cloud service for companies that operate lower volume services.
